Judges

John Fleming

John 00 Fleming is one of few artists in dance music that has preserved underground respect whilst enjoying commercial success during a career spanning two decades.

His ability to transcend genres in a quest to take great music to the masses, has resulted in a unique and sought after sound that is purely JOOF. A pioneering producer and DJ, John 00 Fleming has led his own sonic movement, respected by artists across the globe from Moby and Muse to Jean Michel Jarre.

John has sold 10 million records, with singles on over 100 mix compilations and has remixed a cross section of elite artists from Erasure to NIN. He has had 10 mix compilations and 5 singles in the UK Top 40 charts on labels including Virgin, EMI and Warner Music.

In clubs, warehouses, basements, festivals and charts across the world, John 00 Fleming has well and truly earned his reputation as one of the most in-demand and well respected artists in dance music.

Nikhil Chinapa

Nikhil Chinapa has many avatars: DJ, MTV VJ of long standing, Music Producer, Festival Director, Electronica Evangelist, co-founder of Submerge (India’s biggest Electronic Dance Music movement), Scuba Diver and Architect; all of which not least the architect bit, allows him to have a unique perspective on how to create that perfect party vibe ... and ram everyone through the ceiling with it!

Nikhil's experience as a DJ, promoter and Festival Director also gives him the insight to understand the unique qualities that a great Club DJ needs to possess. That makes him an automatic choice for our Jury at UDC.

Pearl

Pearl’s obsession with music may have been nurtured at home by her parents, but she has traversed the world in its pursuit. Not only is Pearl the only Indian DJ to play at Ministry of Sound in London, she has graced the decks at the legendary Pacha in Ibiza and also played parties in EDM hotspots like Tokyo and Paris. Pearl was the Submerge half of the wicked Defected/Submerge compilation – the first Indian House Music Compilation. She then went on to make a mix for Defected Goa ’09, which was released globally to rave reviews.

Pearl has pioneered the cause of House music across the Indian subcontinent and is one of the co-founders of ‘Submerge’ along with Nikhil Chinapa and Hermit Sethi.

Arguably one of India’s best DJs, Pearl has manned the decks at a few thousand parties and brings ten years of DJ experience to the judge's booth.

Arjun Vagale (Jalebee Cartel)

Arjun Vagale is undoubtedly the most hardworking and prolific DJ in the Indian EDM scene. Having spent over a decade in an ongoing love affair with house music, he tirelessly promotes the genre in all ways possible, shuffling between a hectic DJ schedule, a super-successful live act - Jalebee Cartel, long studio sessions, running a promising record label – MakTub Music, and moonlighting as a promoter.

Arjun has racked up air-miles between America, France, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Dubai, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, and every corner of India. He’s played alongside such heavyweights as Sasha, Dave Seaman, Paolo Mojo, Judge Jules & more!

Tuhin Mehta (Brute Force)

With a career spanning 18 years, and a sound that's developed
from the first time he connected his CD players and a 2-channel
mixer to his home system, Tuhin's DJ sets have scythed a niche
for himself in India.

Tuhin's exceptional skills as a DJ and producer (He is a professionally qualified student of Audio Engineering from the world-renowned School of Audio Engineering (SAE)'s Chennai campus and an international ambassador to the Berklee College Of Music) caught the attention of Pioneer, the world's leading manufacturers of professional DJ equipment. In 2008, he was
named as a Pioneer Pro DJ for India.

His set at the Sunburn Music Festival in 2008 was rated by many as the best of the festival, overshadowing many big name international acts.

Finally, for Go:Madras – Tuhin was one of the three people responsible for Chennai's only electronic music festival. The festival showcases the spirit of Chennai that is Madras.

Sanjay Dutta

Genre of choice:  Electronica/House
What began as a keen interest in dance music in his early teens, eventually turned into a career choice, and the unofficial tag of Kolkata's premier club DJ.

Sanjay's constant quest to keep himself informed and in tune with the global dance scene has seen him outshine other club DJs in India. At a gig played by Datta, clubbers can expect a fresh, unique sound or that massive anthem that’s yet to take the charts by storm. Sanjay loves the warmth of vinyl's analogue format. He's arguably the only DJ in India to completely source his repertoire on vinyl. The music he plays is carefully selected from the global dance sound, and his hi-energy sets have won him accolades across the country and beyond.
