UDC - RULES & REGULATIONS

READ THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS CAREFULLY. YOU MAY PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST ONLY ON THE CONDITION THAT YOU AGREE TO COMPLY WITH ALL OF THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS.

The Ultimate DJ Championship (“UDC” or “Contest”) is a competition designed by Submerge Entertainment Private Limited (“Submerge”) to engage the contestants (“Contestant/s”) in submitting their original DJ Mix (“DJ Mix”). The following Rules and Regulations shall be applicable to the Contest.

To participate in the Contest, every Contestant shall also agree to comply with the Terms and Conditions in the website located at http://udc.submerge.in/.
The following rules are applicable to the Contest:

I - Eligibility:
  • EveryContestant shall bean Indian National, and18 years or older as of 14thAugust, 2010. Contestantshall furnish proof of age and nationality i.e. Passport, Driving License, Pan Card or Voters Card, if requested by Submerge.
II - Registration:
  • Every Contestant must register and provide information about them at the Contest website located http://udc.submerge.in/. Registration opens on 20th August at 19:00 IST and closes on 1st September at Mid-Night IST for the cities Mumbai and Bangalore; and closes on 6th September at Mid-Night IST for the cities Kolkata and New DelhiEach Contestant may register only once.
    As part of the registration process, every Contestant will be required to provide information and/or cogent documents evidencing their name, email addresses, mailing address, telephone number, and other personal details. All entries will be considered incomplete and will be disqualified if they lack any or all of the following:filled in details against all mandatory fields prefixed with the symbol* in the entry form, proof of age and nationality, copy of photograph,the mix or the mix in the format as specified by Submerge, from time to time.
III - Duration:
  • The registration process closes four(4) days prior to the start of each centre’s regional prelims. Submissions made beyond this date will be rejected. The Contest dates for the various rounds are detailed at the website located at http://udc.submerge.in/schedule.html.
IV - ContestRules:
  1. Only one entry per Contestantis allowed. Multiple submissions by the same Contestant will be rejected.
  2. Judges decision in all matters is final, and cannot be appealed or contested.
  3. Every Contestant shall upload his/her DJ Mix on to the website located at www.hotfile.com.
  4. Once entered in the contest, DJ mixes become property of Submerge, till the end of the close of the finals. Shortlisted mixes will be streamed on the website for people to listen to and possibly rate them.
  5. Use of own equipment other than headphones shall not be permitted. Other required equipment will be provided by Submerge. You will be provided withthree(3) Pioneer CDJ 2000& one(1) Pioneer DJM 800. The other equipment that will be provided by Submerge are detailed in the website located at http://udc.submerge.in/rules.html.
  6. It is an integral part of these Rules that, the Contestantwill be required to sign a standard video release form at the regional prelims, regional finals & national finals in respect to filming their performances during the championship.
  7. Contestants who make it to the national final are required to sign an exclusive management contract with Submerge for a period of one (1) year.
  8. In the event of a stoppage of performance by the Contestant, the following rules will apply:
    1. If the stoppage is due to equipment failure and due to no fault of the Contestant, the Contestantwill be allowed to perform the set in its entirety from the beginning.
    2. If the stoppage is due to equipment failure that is due to the fault of the Contestant, the Contestantwill be allowed to readjust the equipment and restart the set, from where the equipment broke down. The Contestantmay start the set from the beginning, but the time will recommence from where the Contestantstopped, and no extra time will be permitted in this regard.
  9. No person directly employed by MTV India, Viacom 18 Media Private Limited,Coca Cola India Private Limited or Submerge Entertainment Private Limitedare eligible to participate in the UDC.
V - Contest Structure:
  • The Contest shall comprise of the following four stages:
Stage 1 – Online Entry and Mix Submission:
  1. Every Contestant must submit a demo mix along with his/her entry form. The guidelines for the same are as follows:
  2. The demo mix shallbe a minimum offifteen(15) minutes and a maximum of twenty five(25) minutes long. Please note thatany mix which isover twenty five(25) minutes will be deleted from the server, and the application will be treated as disqualified.
  3. The DJ mix file should be 192kbps or less. Only mp3 files are allowed.
  4. The demo DJ mixshallcontain between 3 & 5 tracks.
  5. The demo DJ mixshallbe mixed by the Contestant alone.
  6. The demo DJ mix shallbe mixed on professional hardware. List of equipment used MUST be included.
  7. The demo DJmixshall not contain pre-mixed/edited tracks or mash-ups.
  8. The demo DJ mix may contain acapellas.
  9. The demo DJ mixshall not contain any bollywood / desi samples. This is due to territory licensing & copyright issues in India.
  10. Complete track-listing with artist name, track name & mix name must be submitted in the fields provided.
  11. Contestant must submit a music / mix concept in writing in less than two hundred(200) words if shortlisted for the judging round.
Stage 2 –Regional Prelims:
  1. If person is shortlisted, they will be sent the Terms and Conditions. If Contestants are agreeable to the contest Terms and Conditions, they must print out and send us a signed copy of the same to an address provided with us. Contestantbe not be considered eligible for Regional prelims and subsequent stages they may qualify for without a signed copy of the Terms and Conditions being sent to us prior to the Contest.
  2. Contestant must submit a music essay / mix concept in writing in less than two hundred (200) words. Track-listing must be included.
  3. Each Contestant selected will be given 15 minutes to showcase his or her ability behind the console. There will also be a ten (10) minute Q & A with the judges.
  4. Contestant must mix a minimum of 4 tracks during the time period allotted. He or she will also need to change at-least 3 CD’s within the time allotted.
  5. Pre-edited / Pre-Mixed tracks will not be allowed. (No tempo correction / Key correction).
  6. Contestants will be required to showcase a set that contains tracks of varying BPM by adjusting the tempo control live on the CD player.
  7. Mash-ups will not be allowed. Acapellas are allowed.
  8. Bollywood / desi samples are not allowed. This is due to territory licensing & copyright issues in India.
  9. The maximum number of CD players that shall be used isthree(3).
  10. The maximum number of mixers that shall be used is one (1).
  11. The model of the CD players that will be provided is Pioneer CDJ 2000
  12. The mixer that will be provided is Pioneer DJM 800
  13. No hardware besides what is provided by the organizers is to be used.
  14. Contestants MUST bring their own headphones and CD’s.
Stage 3 –Regional Finals:
  1. Competitors making it through to the regional finals will be given a bank of music by the judges at the end of the regional prelims.
  2. Each Contestant selected will be given twenty five(25) minutes to showcase his or her ability behind the console. There will also be a 10 minute Q & A with the judges.
  3. Contestant must use a minimum of five (5) tracks from the bank and can use only one track out of his or her own bank.
  4. Contestant must mix a minimum of six (6) tracks in the time period allotted. He or she will also need to change at-least five (5) CD’s within the time allotted.
  5. Pre-edited / Pre-Mixed tracks will not be allowed. (No tempo correction / Key correction).
  6. Contestants will be required to showcase a set that contains tracks of varying BPM by adjusting the tempo control live on the CD player.
  7. Mash-ups will not be allowed.
  8. Acapellas are allowed.
  9. Bollywood / desi samples are not allowed. This is due to territory licensing & copyright issues in India.
  10. The maximum number of CD players that shall be used is three (3).
  11. The maximum number of mixers that shall be used isone(1).
  12. The model of the CD players that will be provided is Pioneer CDJ 2000
  13. The mixer that will be provided is Pioneer DJM 800
  14. No hardware besides what is provided by the organizers is to be used.
  15. Contestants MUST bring their own headphones and CD’s where applicable
Stage 4 –National Finals:
  1. Each Contestant selected will be given twenty five (25) minutes to showcase his or her ability behind the console.
  2. Contestants will be provided with a bank of tracks approved for use by the judges.
  3. He or she must use a minimum of five (5) tracks from the bank and only one track out of his or her own bank.
  4. Contestant must mix a minimum of five (5) tracks in the time period allotted. He or she will also need to change at-least 5 CD’s in the time allotted.
  5. Pre-edited / Pre-Mixed tracks will not be allowed. (No tempo correction / Key correction).
  6. Contestants will be required to showcase a set that contains tracks of varying BPM by adjusting the tempo control live on the CD player.
  7. Mash-ups will not be allowed. Acapellas are allowed.
  8. Bollywood / desi samples are not allowed. This is due to territory licensing & copyright issues in India.
